I know very well that building your own house is a huge challenge. The multitude of topics, building materials can make your head spin. The basis of any good construction is a reliable contractor and proven materials. Reconciling daily responsibilities along with the search for proven solutions, often under time pressure, is very absorbing, and what is worse, it does not guarantee success. Each piece of this puzzle is important.
The Barnhouse Ideas is not just a finished project, it is a blog and a description of our construction journey. Only by building a house for ourselves, not having an infinite budget, we can fully feel all the emotions and dilemmas associated with it-with selection and frequent compromise. That’s why, in addition to the finished project, we’ve described our building choices on the blog, along with the reasoning behind them, and now we can also evaluate them from a user’s perspective.
Model Barn Project M was completed and occupied in 2018. It took over a year to design and 15 months to build. Both during this time and in our design practice, we met many contractors. Our idea is that the investor, along with the project, gets proven materials and proven professionals, or simply a proven path that will take him “dry footed” through the construction.
